Bus Passes and Travel Tokens
Senior citizens (those over 60) or disabled people living in the area are entitled to either a free countywide bus pass or travel tokens, issued by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. The travel tokens are valued at £1 each and can be used on local buses, trains, taxis or community transport.

You can apply for the bus pass or travel tokens at any time of the year at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s offices in London Road, Basingstoke. Go to the Payments Hall, which is open from 8.30am-4pm Monday - Friday.

Your first application must be in person and you need to supply proof of age (for example, medical card, passport or birth certificate) and proof of address (for example a bill for council tax, gas or electricity).

Disability claimants need to show proof of disability by producing evidence of their Hampshire County Council registration card, disability living allowance, war pensioners’ mobility allowance or a letter from their GP.

As from 1 April 2008, the Hampshire bus pass changed to a national bus pass and entitles residents to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England. Off peak hours are 9.30am-11pm Monday to Friday and all day weekends and bank holidays. For Hampshire residents, the start time for use of the pass has been extended to 09.00am.

The pass will not be valid in Scotland or Wales; charges will still apply on buses in these areas. Within London, the pass cannot be used on trains or the Underground. The pass is only valid on local bus services and cannot be used on national coach express services or any similar coach service.

If you move to a different area you must apply to your new local council and return your bus pass/ travel tokens to the originating council.

For further information on the 2008 concessionary fares scheme, go to the B&DBC web site, contact Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s helpline on 01256 844844 or email info@basingstoke.gov.uk
